Various ArtistsFreddie Fresh Presents Abstract Funk Theory
By Miles Hawthorn
Mr Fresh is famous for his twin obsessions of breakbeats and analogue exploration, so his choice of music here should not surprise anyone. Probing the outer limits of most musical genres, Freddy comes up with some typically weird and wonderful gems from yesteryear. From the highly obscure and sought after tracks such as Cat Stevens' Dog Was A Doughnut and Quadrant Six's Body Mechanic to classics from Dan Curtin and Inner City, his selections are cultured and imaginative. Also including two exclusive tracks of his own, (one recorded with Man Parrish), this is the journey through experimental electronica you would expect from a maverick such as Freddy Fresh.
