Cristian Vogel
Rescate 137

By Andy Gain

The eminent Brighton dwarf returns with another long-player of terribly twisted electronics that shows all the pretenders what future funk really means.

Presented as a concept album with the tracks relating to sites on and around an imaginary island, Vogel yet again gets down and dirty with the machines, fusing rich breakbeat experiments with bassy erratic techno movements and flagrant sample abuse. The second track, Underwater Living is a P-funk beast of a tune with savagely distorted vocals and erratic drumming, while Crater 8 sounds like the kind of music Luke Vibert might have made if he'd shaved off his goatee and moved to Brighton.

Cut up beyond comprehension and always likely to slide off in to something totally unexpected, Rescate 137 rocks.
