Sieg Uber Die Sonne

By Isabel Hopwood

Overblown sales guff in the promo leaflet aside (“bestowing the intermedial world”, indeed) this rocks. Played over decent speakers, the sharp, shiny, shapely sounds just bounce off the walls. You’ll Never Come Back uses every cliché in the book (strings, burbling keyboards, filtered foreign English vocal) and still sounds marvellous – more vintage Yello than Venga Boys. The ultra crisp production also gives tracks like Beat Box a delicious mix of dirty, feral beat and squeaky, Kraftwerk-styled polished electro. Very cool.
